Chris discovered his passion for music while studying Fine Arts at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Baltimore City, Maryland.
Upon graduating, he made the fate-changing decision to decline acceptance to Boston University of Arts in order to pursue a musical education.
Aided by his trusty library card and the inheritance of an ex-DJ’s entire record collection, the next several years were spent intensely playing
and listening to an eclectic mix of styles: major influences included Stanley Jordan, Béla Fleck, Jaco Pastorius, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd as well
as Bach, Debussy and Satie. Chris included all of these new ideas into his playing style,
making him one of the most versatile young players on the scene.
At the age of 20, Chris moved to Switzerland and began his studies at the Swiss Jazz School/ Bern University of Arts. Through lessons with influential
teachers such as Martin Streule, Stephan Rademacher, Klaus König, Christian Henking and Darmon Meader (New York Voices) he honed his talents in composition
and performance. He graduated from the SJS/ BUA in 2005. He has been active in the Berner music scene since his arrival. With his usual versatility he
changes styles more often than he changes bass strings, and has performed and recorded with a number of groups including TJ’s Sphereology, the fusion-funk
band Jean-Pierre, Rai-X and more recently with Sandy Patton, Nadja Stoller and Jan Fabricky.
Chris strives to be the best ‘all-arounder’ possible,
and his work as a bassist-teacher-composer (not necessarily in that order) keep him busy. He is equally at home on-stage, conducting the Children and Youth
Choir of the Music School Lyss or writing for his avant-garde ensemble Cantus Interruptus. He is also looking forward to the upcoming publication of his
first children’s musical “Vo Zyt zu Zyt”. In addition, Chris teaches Choir Leading and Arrangement in the Master’s program (for Pop Music) at the
Bern University of Arts, as well as the ACT (Advanced Combo Training) Course at the Swiss Jazz School.
